European partnership promises water innovations


A major European Union initiative to promote innovation in the water sector has promised to adopt its strategic implementation plan by the end of the year, with its operational phase to start in early 2013. The European Innovation Partnership on Water (EIPW) held its kick-off meeting in Brussels on 4 September.

UK Energy Entrepreneurs' Fund opens for business


Low-carbon entrepreneurs, in particular innovative individuals and small and medium-sized companies, could benefit from a £16 million (€20 million) call for proposals published by the British government at the end of August. The funding is available for projects that will largely be conducted in the United Kingdom, and the call is open until 31 October 2012.

Desso uses Cradle to Cradle® principle in carpet manufacturing


Rudi Daelmans has been Director of Sustainability at Dutch carpet manufacturer DESSO since 2007. DESSO produces carpets for commercial use, for the hospitality, marine and aviation sectors and for consumers. In 2008, DESSO embraced the Cradle to Cradle® principle. This is a design concept, formulated by chemist Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, under which products are made from components that are easy to disassemble, in order to create new products.
