ECOPOL was a European Union-backed project to identify and analyse promising eco-innovation policies with the potential for transfer between countries. The project concentrated in particular on green public procurement, the internationalisation strategies for eco-innovative small and medium companies and resource efficiency. One of the key conclusions of the project, outlined at a final conference in October 2013, was that transfer of eco-innovation is “impossible” – what is required is “smart translation” to adapt effective policies to new contexts.

A collaborative project that brings together a number of European municipal authorities is actively exploring the transfer of good practice in green information and communications technology. The GreenITNet project has recognised that both greening of IT and greening by IT can help cities meet their sustainability targets. The project runs until the end of 2014 and will hold its final conference on 29 October 2014.
